Coastal Green Building Solutions (CGBS) specializes in Air Barrier Testing for Building Envelopes, Thermal Imaging, Pull-Off Strength of Coatings Using Portable Adhesion Testers, Building Forensics, Air Sealing, Water Infiltration Testing, HVAC duct systems, and Infrared Roof Inspections.

CGBS offer's Thermal Imaging by Certified Infrared Thermographers as required by the Standards for Thermographic Testing ASTM C1060 and ASTM  E1886.  We offer our clients a turn-key solution to their Air Barrier Certification and Building Envelope problem needs reqiured by ASTM Air Tightness Testing Protocols E1827 and E779.  ASTM D 4541 Pull-Off Adhesion Testing.

Our focus is in Government Buildings, Commercial/Industrial Buildings, Multifamily, and Residential for LEED and other National Building Certifications.

The USACE, NAVFAC and GSA Air Tightness Testing Protocols and Energy Efficiency Standards have recently changed and require that all Government Military Buildings have Building Envelope Air Barrier Testing and Thermal Imaging.

CGBS has demonstrated success on commercial military projects with our three-phase approach to air barrier testing.  We begin by providing a detailed plan review to identify potential problem areas, connection points and gaps in the air barrier.  Particular attention is paid to air barrier details and methods of installation.  At the beginning of installation of the building wrap, window installation, door installation or when requested by the General Contractor, CGBS can make a site visit to review installations to identify potential problem areas and make the necessary recommendations for alternative methods or improvements.  It is our goal to eliminate re-testing and to insure that every project passes the air barrier testing on the first test. (General Contractors are having a 100% success rate in passing their tests the first time when CGBS reviews the plans, provides recommendations and visits the site during the construction process).

CGBS Provides a wide variety of inspection services for Government Contractors, Commercial and Industrial Businesses, Municipalities, General Contractors, Architects, Engineers and Home Owners.  We can identify, repair and protect homes, buildings, equipment and structures from moisture, leaks, corrosion and inefficient energy usage.

Our Commercial Team provides Infrared Roof Scans, Infrared Roof Moisture Surveys, Comfort Diagnostics for Commercial and Industrial Buildings, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Programs, Moisture Investigations, Due Diligence Inspection Assistance and Building Envelope Air Barrier Testing following ASTM E1827 and E779.

Our Residential Team provides certification services for builders working under single and multi-family energy efficiency and Green Building programs such as Energy Star and Earthcraft House.  We can provide Spray Foam Insulation Coverage Verifiction (using Infrared), single and multi-family air sealing packages, Comfort Diagnostics, High Utility Bill Investigations and Utility Bill Projection Analysis.

Air Barrier Testing:

Coastal Green Building Solutions (CGBS) performs Large Building Air Barrier Testing and Thermal Imaging for compliance with USACE, NAVFAC, and GSA air barrier tightness protocols for new construction.  Specializing in Military Base Applications as well as Commercial/Industrial Buildings and Multifamily Residential Buildings, our team of highly trained and skilled professionals utilize years of experience to work with Contractors, Architects, Engineers, Property Managers and Building Owners to insure success of targeted goals.

With a philosophy of going above and beyond, CGBS strives to exceed your expectations and provide only the best customer service and expertise.  We go out of our way to insure first-time testing success and work with our clients to address potential building envelope problems that may impact compliance with applicable construction standards.  What can we do for your next project?

New Construction:

CGBS Air Barrier Testing procedures follow the requisite and most recent ASTM Standards, ASTM E1827 and ASTM E779 as defined by the majority of new construction project specifications insuring compliance for our valued clients.  Large Building Air Barrier Testing is done via pressurization and depressurization to determine building envelope air leakage.  Problem areas are quickly identified and CGBS technicians work closely with our clients to resolve problems, provide solutions and achieve successful testing results.

Integrating Thermal Imaging by Certified Infrared Thermographers as required by standards for Thermographic Testing ASTM C1060 and ASTM E 1886, we can offer our clients a turn-key solution to their Air Barrier Certification needs.

In order to insure the highest level of expertise and service to our clients, CGBS has partnered with Fluke Corporation, the worldwide leader in technologically advanced Infrared Thermal Imaging equipment. To get the most out of this high-tech equipment, CGBS’ on-staff Thermographers have been extensively trained by the country’s leader in Infrared Thermography, The Snell Group.

To best serve our clients we approach all projects, large and small, with the same attention to detail and enthusiasm.  Regardless of how big or small your building, CGBS can take care of your needs.  Whether it be small apartment buildings, large homes, mid-rise commercial buildings or large military base projects, CGBS’ flexibility ranges from a single blower door fan to truck mounted whole building blower door fan applications.

Thermal Imaging:

Infrared Thermography is the science of using Electronic Optical Devices to detect and measure radiation and correlating that to surface temperature.  Radiation is the movement of heat that occurs as radiant energy (electromagnetic waves) moves without a direct medium of transfer.  Modern Infrared Thermography is performed by using Electronic Optical Devices to detect and measure Radiation and correlate it to the surface temperature of the structure or equipment being inspected.

Thermal Imaging is quickly becoming recognized as an invaluable tool for solving building envelope related failures and as a requirement for Air Barrier Testing.

CGBS offers Thermal Imaging by Certified Infrared Thermographers as required by Standards for Thermographic Testing ASTM C1060 and ASTM E1886.  We can offer our clients a turn-key solution to their Air Barrier Certification and building problem needs.

Additional applications for Thermal Imaging are:
  • Commercial and Industrial Building Flat Roof water damage inspections for insurance policy compliance
  • Building Envelope Inspections
  • Thermal by-pass inspections for spray applied insulation
  • Identification of potential water damaged problem areas
  • Electrical and Industrial Inspections
  • Detect Thermal issues created by trapped moisture under roofing membrane and behind walls
  • Non-Destructive Moisture Meter is used to verify the presence of moisture

Water Infiltration Testing:

CGBS performs Third Party Water Infiltration Field Testing on Windows, Doors, Curtain Walls, Masonry Walls, and Storefront systems for water penetration during the construction phase. CGBS also offers complete forensic water penetration of installed windows, doors, and wall systems of existing buildings.

Testing Window with Spray Rack

CGBS completes all testing in accordance with either the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) Testing Protocols.

CGBS is generally used to validate that Doors, Windows, Storefronts, and Curtain Wall assemblies are installed to meet the project specifications and product manufacturers’ installation requirements. Field testing for Water Penetration/Infiltration will determine the quality of work of the installers and ensure their accountability and will also ensure that proper specifications were followed during the installation process.

  • ·         Specializing in water Infiltration Origin and Cause
  • ·         Identify failure points in the Building Envelope
  • ·         Recreate simulated rainfall event to find the source of Water Infiltration
  • ·         Documentation and Photographs that depict the problem areas
  • ·         Written scope of work provided for the corrections can be provided
  • ·         Re-testing can be provided once corrections are made
  • ·         Infrared Thermal Imaging used to verify Infiltration and Moisture areas
